After an offensive explosion in its last outing, The College of Wooster women’s lacrosse team will be aiming to keep it up this week when it hosts Seton Hill University (1-8) on Friday, April 6, at 4:30 p.m. The contest at Wooster’s Carl Dale Memorial Field will mark only the second time the teams have met, with the first being in 2006 when the Fighting Scots handed the Griffins a 19-4 defeat.
Last Week: Wooster split a pair of non-conference contests last week, moving its record to 2-3.
On March 28, the Scots fought back from a 5-0 deficit in their 2007 home opener and tied the game 8-8 with 5:56 remaining, however, it was Notre Dame (Ohio) College that scored the decisive goal to come away with a 9-8 victory. Wooster trailed 7-3 early in the second half and then went on a 5-1 run, highlighted by three unanswered goals from Emily Baab (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Walsh Jesuit) over a 6:25 stretch. Baab’s last score knotted the game at eight, but Notre Dame won the ensuing draw control and scored 37 seconds later on a free position attempt. The Scots were led by Baab’s three goals, while Annie Steward (Littleton, Mass. / Lawrence Academy) chipped in two. Accounting for the others were Cassie Brown (New Fairfield, Conn. / New Fairfield), Taryn Higgins (Marblehead, Mass. / Marblehead), and Becca Worthington (St. Louis Park, Minn. / St. Louis Park). Defensively, Jamie Dannenberg (Framingham, Mass. / Framingham) registered a career-high 13 saves on the afternoon.
On April 1, Wooster scored three goals in the first 1:42 and stormed out to an 8-0 lead after 10 full minutes of action en route to routing Fontbonne University 24-2. After the visitors got on the board (8-1), the Scots’ offense completely blew open the game, scoring six more goals, and they eventually took a 17-2 cushion into the half. Wooster held Fontbonne scoreless in the second. For the game, 15 different Scots accounted for goals, paced by Carly Carey (Cummington, Mass. / Academy at Charlemont) and Lauren DeZellar (Eden Prairie, Minn. / Eden Prairie), who had three apiece. Also recording multiple-goal performances were Baab, Brown, Emmy Cassagnol (Silver Spring, Md. / Our Lady of Good Counsel, Hillary Darragh (Evanston, Ill. / Evanston Twp.), and Megan Thomas (St. Louis Park, Minn. / St. Louis Park). |
