Winners of two in a row, The College of Wooster women’s lacrosse team has a busy week ahead, as it takes to the field for three games, highlighted by the North Coast Athletic Conference opener. The Fighting Scots’ 2007 NCAC debut will be Wednesday, April 11, when they head to preseason favorite Ohio Wesleyan University (6-1, 3-0 NCAC) for a 4:30 p.m. clash. Noteworthy, the game will be broadcast on tape delay by the Columbus Sports Network, which is carried by several cable providers in central Ohio. Wooster leads the all-time series with the Battling Bisops 31-22-1, including a slim 7-6 victory last spring which gave the Scots the top seed and the Bishops the No. 2 seed for the NCAC tourney. Both squads ended up getting upset in the postseason, as fourth-seeded Denison University knocked off Wooster 10-7 and Ohio Wesleyan fell 9-7 to Allegheny College, the No. 3 seed.
This weekend, April 14-15, the Scots will have a two-day homestand, first welcoming rival Wittenberg University (2-5, 0-2 NCAC) for a conference tilt. Saturday’s game time is 2 p.m. Wooster has gotten the better of the Tigers over the years, holding a 41-10-1 lead in the series, and has not lost to them since 2003, including a 13-9 decision last season. On Sunday, the Scots host the University of Puget Sound (3-4) in non-league action, starting at 11 a.m. The Loggers traveled to Wooster once before, with the Scots posting an 11-2 victory April 15, 2005.

Last Week: The Scots won their only outing of the week, a non-conference affair, running their record to an even 3-3 on the year.
On April 6, Wooster bolted out to a 9-1 lead just over 15 minutes into its game with visiting Seton Hill University en route to handing the undermanned Griffins a 16-7 setback. Emily Baab (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Walsh Jesuit) scored three consecutive goals within the first three minutes, and Carly Carey (Cummington, Mass. / Acad. at Charlemont) and Romy Eberle (New Haven, Conn. / Hopkins) taked on two more tallies to vault the Scots to an early 5-0 lead. Seton Hill then got on the board, but Wooster answered with four goals in a row, and took an eventual 9-2 lead into the halftime break. The Griffins turned things around in the second, closing the gap to three (9-6) before a Megan Thomas (St. Louis Park, Minn. / St. Louis Park) free position goal and followed shortly thereafter by a Brittany Montgomery (Glens Falls, N.Y. / Glens Falls) net-finder ended Seton Hill’s rally. Overall, Baab and Carey fueled Wooster’s offensive firepower, ending the game with three goals apiece, while Cassie Brown (New Fairfield, Conn. / New Fairfield) had two. Eight additional Scots found the scoring column, with Hillary Darragh (Evanston, Ill. / Evanston Twp.) contributing three assists. Defensively, Jamie Dannenberg (Framingham, Mass. / Framingham) made eight saves to help preserve the Wooster win.
