Three Scots Named to All-West Region Second Team
Three juniors from The College of Wooster – Carly Carey (Faribault, Minn. / Academy at Charlemont – Mass.), Jamie Dannenberg (Framingham, Mass. / Framingham), and Romy Eberle (New Haven, Conn. / Hopkins) – were selected to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association All-West Region Second Team, announced the organization Thursday. Carey, an attacker, was a first-team all-region pick a year ago and put up even better numbers this season. Her 47 goals, 10 of which came on free-position attempts, marked the sixth-most in team history, and she assisted on 10 others for a 57-point campaign. Carey, who had a hat trick in 11 of 16 games, ranked among the top-100 in NCAA Div. III in goals (2.94 per game). For her career, Carey has totaled 121 points on 98 goals and 23 assists, putting her on pace to finish among the top-10 scorers at Wooster. Dannenberg, a newcomer to the IWLCA All-West Team, played every minute in goal for the Fighting Scots this spring. The two-year starter not only led the North Coast Athletic Conference in save percentage (.542) and goals against average (9.17), but ranked 11th and 19th, respectively, in the nation in those categories. Overall, Dannenberg posted 176 saves, including three games with 15. Eberle, also a second-team all-region honoree last spring, was the top defender for a group that ranked first in the conference in goals allowed at just 9.31 per game. Individually, she tied for the team lead in caused turnovers (21), as well as rating second in groundballs (32) and fifth in draw controls (13). As a team, Wooster went 10-6, reaching a double-digit win total for the eighth time in nine seasons. During NCAC play, the Scots placed second, only missing out on a second consecutive championship by virtue of a 14-13 triple-overtime loss to Ohio Wesleyan University in the conference tourney finals. |
