Women's Lacrosse Win Streak Reaches Seven
Box Score
The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team not only extended its winning streak to seven games, marking the program's longest such string since it won 10-straight over the 1976 and 1977 seasons, on Saturday afternoon (April 14), but it accomplished something that had been done only one previous time in the 28-year history of the sport at the school.
And, that was record a shutout, as Wooster went on the road and cruised past Earlham College 17-0. The Scots' lone other shutout came via a 13-0 decision over Buffalo State on April 16, 1994.
This time around, junior goalie Kim Christensen only had to turn away five Earlham shots to preserve the goose egg.
Offensively, 12 different players registered points for the Scots led by a six-point effort from junior Miriam Esber, who had three goals and three assists. Also scoring three goals on the day was sophomore Megan Kennedy, who added an assist as well.
Rachel Stevens, a first-year, hit the back of the net twice to increase her team-leading goal total to 23 and registered an assist. Senior Katelyn Connolly totaled one goal and two assists, while sophomore Beth Hemminger assisted on three scores and now stands just five assists shy of the school record for a single-season with four regular season games, plus the postseason still to play.
Additional multi-point scorers were freshmen Jessica Bacon and Molly Spirer and junior Emily White. Spirer and White scored two goals apiece, while Bacon posted a one-goal, one-assist effort.
Wooster's win streak will be tested in its next game, as Colorado College (4-6) is scheduled to come to town on Thursday (April 19). Colorado, which was in the others receiving votes category in the most recent IWLCA Division III Poll, and the Scots will face-off at 4:30 p.m.
