Senior Ashley Arnold posted her fourth consecutive multiple-goal
outing, but it wasn't enough as The College of Wooster women's lacrosse
team fell to conference foe Denison University 9-4 in Granville,
Ohio, this afternoon. The Scots fall to 2-3 and 1-1 in the North
Coast Athletic Conference, while the Big Red stay a top the league
standings with a 2-0 mark and 3-3 overall.
Arnold recorded the first score just under a minute into the game,
but the Big Red answered with a 4-0 run, including two scores by
Kristin Frost, to take the lead for good. Arnold attempted to ignite
the Scot offense with her second goal at 3:44, but Denison's Quinn
Simmons threw in what proved to be the game-winning score just
16 seconds later to end the offense in the first half.
The Big Red carried the momentum into the second half, as Simmons
and Frost opened with consecutive goals to put Denison up 7-2. Arnold
managed her team-leading 14th goal of the season at 24:25, and following
another Denison score, freshman Allison Rubin cut the lead
to four (8-4) with a free position goal at 19:41.
But the Big Red's defense held firm down the stretch, holding the
Scots scoreless for the remaining 19 minutes of the game. Courtney
Abrams added a goal at 3:48 to seal the win for Denison.
Arnold, who posted a career-high five goals against Wittenberg
last time out, led the Scots in scoring by connecting on three of
her five shots at the goal, while Rubin picked up her fourth goal
this spring.
Nicki Hunt played all 60 minutes in goal for Wooster, posting
five saves.
Frost led Denison with three goals, while Simmons, Abrams, and
Liz Hollick each added two scores. Carolyn Hicks turned
away 14 shots to pick up the win.
Wooster will try to rebound on Tuesday, April 12, with contest
against Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio, at 4:30 p.m.
