The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team opened its spring season with a 13-10 win over the State University of New York at Fredonia today in West Palm Beach, Fla.

The Scots scored the game's first two goals and the last three of the first half to take a 7-3 lead into the break.

After opening with a 3-1 run at the start of the second period, Wooster had its lead cut to three (10-7).

But the Blue Devils couldn't overcome the Scots' stingy defense, as the visitors maintained a three or four-goal margin the rest of the way.

Seven Scots in all found the back of the goal, led by Helena Iaquinta's five-goal performance. Junior Megan Sward added three goals and two assists and sophomore Annie Steward recorded a goal and an assist.

Nicki Hunt played all 60 minutes in goal for the Scots, recording seven saves in the victory.

Katlelyn Ferry, Erin Schurr, and Kaleena Goldsworthy each scored two goals for Fredonia State.

The Scots continue play from West Palm Beach, Fla., this week with a match up against Eastern Connecticut State University on Wednesday, March 23, at 3 p.m.
