| Ashley Arnold scored Wooster's first goal against Kenyon, marking
the fourth time this season she has jump-started the offense. |
The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team could not be stopped
Tuesday night at Carl Dale Memorial Field, as the Scots raced all
over the field and pounded Kenyon College 19-4 in North Coast Athletic
Conference action. Wooster improves its record to 5-3 overall and
3-1 in league play this spring, while the Ladies fall to 4-5 and
1-2 in the NCAC.
In typical fashion, senior Ashley Arnold kicked things off
with the game's first score at 26:13, and a little over four minutes
later four more balls found their way into the back of the net for
the Scots, including the first scores of the season by Kate Finefrock
and Pamela Olson.
Wooster's offense was quiet for about 13 minutes in the first half,
during which Kenyon was able to cut the lead to 5-2 with back-to-back
scores by Lauren Greene and Katharine Bente. But the
Scots began the attack anew with back-to-back scores of their own
by junior Helena Iaquinta, followed by an unassisted goal
by Megan Sward, to jump out in front 8-2 heading into the
break.
Wooster opened the second half with a 6-0 run down to the 17 minute
mark to blow the game wide open and send the Ladies to their fate.
Arnold and Sward each picked up two goals during that stretch, with
Arnold also picking up her first assist of the year on Mary Risley's
second score of the game.
Kenyon quelled the storm with its final two goals midway through
the second stanza, but Wooster's reserves wrapped the game up with
four goals over the last 10 minutes of the game, including two throw-ins
by freshman Allison Rubin.
The Scots' attack was all over Kenyon's goal, racking up 39 shots
and capitalizing on three of their five free position attempts.
Sward led the way with a five-point day coming on four goals and
one assist, while Iaquinta and Arnold each added hat tricks. Risley
and Rubin both ended their days with two goals and Allison Harrod
threw in her only goal during Wooster's opening run.
Four Scots picked up their first goals of the season as Finefrock,
Olson, Cassie Brown, and Emily Baab each tallied one
on the day. Annie Steward and Jessica Baylor each
added an assist as well.
Nicki Hunt played all 60 minutes in the net for Wooster,
making 10 saves and scooping up two groundballs.
Bente paced the Ladies with two goals on the day, while Greene
and Allie Riordan each added one score. Maggie Rosen made
12 saves in the loss.
Wooster takes a small break from conference play this weekend with
a contest against St. Vincent (Pa.) College at Carl Dale Field on
Saturday, April 23, at 1 p.m.
