Behind four goals by Ashley Arnold, The College of Wooster
women's lacrosse team played the spoiler to the opening of a three-day
Ohio swing for the University of Puget Sound, beating the Loggers
11-2 in front of the friendly crowd at Carl Dale Memorial Field
in Wooster, Ohio. The Scots push their season record to 4-3 overall,
while Puget Sound falls to 5-6 on the year.
Today's game marked the first of three in the Buckeye State for
the Loggers, who made the trek from Tacoma, Wash., as they also
play Wooster's fellow conference members, Denison University and
Oberlin College, on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Arnold welcomed the visitors with the first goal of the day at
the 24:18 mark, making a nice individual move to beat a trio of
defenders up the middle of the field. Junior Megan Sward
added a goal at 20:45 and then dished it to Allison Mione
about a minute later for another score. Arnold threw in her second
goal of the first half at 12:03.
The first stanza ended with two goals by the Loggers' Mary Downey,
sandwiched around a throw in by Erica Frazier-Young, setting
the score at 5-2 entering the break.
Wooster's offense picked up right where it left off in the second
half, scoring four goals in the first 10 minutes of the period,
including Arnold's third and fourth tallies of the day. Mary
Risley converted a free position attempt at 16:17 and Helena
Iaquinta finished a three-point day with the game's final score
at 9:41.
Arnold again led the attack for the Scots, picking up her fifth
multiple-goal game of the year and her third with four scores or
more. Sward tallied three points on one goal and two assists, while
Iaquinta picked up her aforementioned points on two goals and one
assist. Mione finished with two goals and Frazier-Young added an
assist to her goal for two points.
Nicki Hunt played all 60 minutes in goal for Wooster, turning
away seven shots.
Downey led the Loggers with two points and Kate Cuno picked
up an assist on one of the goals, while Kristi Hamilton made
14 saves in the net.
Wooster resumes conference play on Tuesday, April 19, as Kenyon
College comes into town for a 4:30 match up at Carl Dale Memorial
Field. |
