Scot Womens Booters Picked Third in The NCAC
WOOSTER, Ohio After finishing as the runner-up in the North Coast Athletic Conference last year, The College of Wooster womens soccer team has been predicted to come in third-place this season, according to the nine head coaches annual preseason poll released by the league on Wednesday. Wooster, which went 13-2-5, including a 5-1-2 mark in the NCAC, with a senior-oriented team last fall, was awarded 63 points. Denison University edged the Scots for second-place in the poll with 67 markers, while Ohio Wesleyan University, the two-time defending NCAA Div. III national champions and four-time defending conference champs, is a unanimous favorite to repeat. Allegheny College was just outside the top-three, garnering 59 points. The top-four teams at the end of the regular season will advance to the NCAC Tournament, with the winner receiving the conferences automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. Kenyon College (41), Wittenberg University (39), Oberlin College (24), Earlham College (20), and Hiram College (11) rounded out the vote. Wooster will host a four-team tournament to begin 2003 on the weekend of Aug. 30-31. The Scots will welcome Heidelberg College, Mt. Union College, and Oberlin College to Carl Dale Memorial Field, with NCAC (Oberlin, Wooster) vs. Ohio Athletic Conference (Heidelberg, Mt. Union) match-ups taking place at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. each day.
