It took a while for The College of Wooster women's soccer team to get going on its muddy home field Sunday (Sept. 10), but once it did the Scots cruised to a 3-0 win over Carthage College in a non-conference match-up.
After a scoreless first half, Wooster sophomore midfielder Beth Hemminger scored twice within the first 10 minutes of the second stanza. Her first goal was an unassisted header 3:20 into the half, while her second came via a crossing pass from junior forward Stephanie Hulke in the match's 54th minute.
The Scots, who dominated play, outshooting Carthage 27-13, tacked on an insurance goal by senior Lealynd Pazderak with 7:45 left on the clock. She was assisted by classmate Emily Cole.
Sophomore Nicole Roman was solid in goal for Wooster, as she stopped eight shots en route to her second shutout of the season, while Lady Red freshman keeper Michelle Handzel had 13 saves.
Next up for the Scots, who are 3-2-0 in 2000, is a home match against Mt. Union on Tuesday (Sept. 12) at 4:30 p.m.
