Women's Soccer Upset By Cavaliers
Box Score
On Thursday (Sept. 28), The College of Wooster women's soccer team
had difficulty rebounding from its worst outing of the year, a 4-1 home
loss to Allegheny on Tuesday, as the Scots went on the road and were upset
by Walsh University 2-1 in North Canton, Ohio.
Wooster, which hadn't loss to the Cavaliers since a 1-0
season-opening setback in 1997, got on the board first. In the 24th minute,
the Scots converted a corner kick with senior Lealynd Pazderak knocking the
ball in for her third goal of the year off a feed from sophomore Beth
Hemminger.
It remained 1-0 until early in the second half when Walsh scored
both of its goals during a 4:30 time span. Senior Terri Jo Riemenschneider
tallied the first in the 56th minute, while junior Marisa Rogers accounted
for the game-winner in the 60th minute.
Defensively, Adrienne Walts, Wooster's sophomore goalkeeper,
registered four saves, while freshman Kristi McFarland totaled 13 saves.
What made the loss all the more frustrating for the Scots, who fell
to 6-4-0 overall on the year, was the fact that they outshot and
outcornered Walsh 14-6 and 5-3, respectively.
Next, Wooster has nearly a week off to prepare for its final
non-conference match of the fall, which will be a tilt at Case Western
Reserve University next Wednesday (Oct. 4) at 4:30 p.m.
