Women's Soccer Wraps Up Homestand With Another Win
 | Beth Hemminger scored Wooster's first goal against Penn State Behrend. |
Box Score
The first College of Wooster team to take the field following
Tuesday's national tragedy was women's soccer, and the Scots were able to
refocus and easily defeat a visiting squad from Penn State Erie - The
Behrend College on Wednesday (Sept. 12) by a score of 3-0.
Wooster finishes its season-opening, non-conference, six-match
homestand with a 5-1-0 record, having outscored its opponents by a combined
total of 18-7.
Just before the midway point of the first half on Wednesday, the
Scots scored a pair of goals just 1:44 apart to take control of the match.
Junior Beth Hemminger placed the ball in the back of the net for the third
time this year at the 32:56 mark after receiving a pass from junior Jessica
Bacon.
Bacon notched her second assist of the day moments later, when she found
senior Liz Martin open. Martin completed the score, marking her third goal
of the season.
It appeared that the final score was going to remain 2-0 during a
defensive-oriented second half, but with 1:56 left in regulation, senior
Stephanie Hulke tallied her sixth goal this fall off a feed from junior
Nicole DeSantis.
In goal, Wooster junior Nicole Roman had to make just two saves to
secure her second shutout in 2001.
Statistically, the Scots outshot Penn State Behrend 25-7.
Wooster will look to extend its three-match winning streak on
Saturday (Sept. 15), when it travels to New Concord, Ohio, for a non-league
meeting against Muskingum College (3-1-1).
