Box Score
Despite being outshot 19-6 and outcornered 10-3, Case Western
Reserve University walked away as the victors in Wednesday's (Sept. 5)
women's soccer match between the visiting Spartans and The College of
Wooster at Carl Dale Memorial Field.
Wooster appeared to be well on its way to its third win in as many
tries this season, as the Scots scored a mere 33 seconds into the match. In
fact, senior Liz Martin's score marked the fastest goal to start a game in
school history - two seconds quicker than Megan Bruce's goal at the 44:25
mark of the first half during 1991s match against Case Western Reserve.
Martin was assisted on the play by junior Lindsay Zella.
The Spartans knotted it at one with 17:29 left in the opening
stanza, when Krista Winzer put one of her two shots on the day into the
back of the net unassisted.
Despite several scoring chances for Wooster, it remained tied 1-1
until 13:40 remained in regulation and Case Western Reserve was awarded a
penalty kick. Midfielder Andrea Barbieri scorched the ball past Scot junior
'keeper Adrienne Walts to give the Spartans a lead that they would make
hold up.
Walts finished with two saves, while Case Western Reserve's Beth
Scmidt came up with six stops on the afternoon to preserve the victory.
Wooster will attempt to bounce back this Saturday (Sept. 8), as it
will host Wilmington College at 1 p.m.
