Stephanie Hulke registered the 11th hat trick in The College of
Wooster's women's soccer history during the Scots' impressive 4-2 victory
on Saturday (Sept. 8) against a tough non-league opponent in Wilmington
College, the defending Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament champions.
Two of Hulke's goals came within the first 3:15 of the contest,
both of which were assisted by junior Beth Hemminger, as Wooster bolted out
to a 2-0 lead.
The Scots made it 3-0 midway through the opening half, when
Hemminger became just the fourth player in the 17-year history of the
program to record three assists in a game. She found freshman Bethany
Reiner open on the right side, and Reiner booted in her first career goal.
Wilmington finally answered less than a minute later, but still
went into halftime down by two.
Hulke opened up the scoring in the second stanza when she notched
goal No. 3 off a free kick to give Wooster an insurmountable 4-1 advantage
with 33:07 to play.
The Lady Quakers did pull within two later after converting a
penalty kick.
Scot goalie Nicole Roman made five saves, while the defense in
front of her consisting of starters Sara Austin, Nicole DeSantis, Kristine
DeWitt, Janette Frederick, and Becca Stinson held Wilmington to just eight
shots on the afternoon.
Wooster, which improved to 3-1-0 overall, continues its
season-opening home stretch with a match against Baldwin-Wallace College on
Monday (Sept. 10) at 5 p.m.
