Scots Come Back to Defeat Westminster 3-2
 | Lauren Sherry |
Westminster Box Score
A three-goal flurry during the opening 15 minutes of the second half turned out to be the difference in The College of Wooster women's soccer team's 3-2 victory over host Westminster College on Wednesday (Sept. 4) in non-conference action at New Wilmington, Pa.
Down 1-0 at the halftime break, Wooster regrouped and came out firing in the second stanza, starting with Amanda Coppes's first collegiate goal. She was assisted by Lauren Sherry, who later scored the eventual game-winner. Brianna Lux gave the Scots the lead nine minutes into the half, thanks to a pass from Alexa McCarthy. Less than six minutes later, Sherry found the back of the net with an assist from sophomore Christine VanderWyden.
Westminster made it interesting by cutting it to one with 4:45 left, but the Wooster defense made the lead hold up. Scot goalie Nicole Roman produced three saves on the day to preserve the win.
Wooster, now 2-0-1 overall, will play a pair of matches this weekend at the Mt. Union Invitational. On Saturday (Sept. 7), the Scots will play Centre College at 5 p.m., followed by a tilt against Frostburg State University on Sunday (Sept. 8) at 2 p.m.
