One of the questions entering the 2003 season for The College of Wooster women’s soccer team was its ability to score. After 16 goals in four matches, including 10 during this weekend’s (Sept. 6-7) sweep of Indiana opponents Manchester College (5-2) and Anderson University (5-0), it appears that the Scots can put those concerns to rest, as they are 4-0 for the first time in the program’s 18-year history.

On Saturday, Wooster fell behind 1-0 7:20 into its match with Manchester, but quickly erased that deficit with three-straight scores before the halftime break, including a pair by Alexa McCarthy just 3:05 apart. They marked McCarthy’s first goals of the year, while Bethany Reiner accounted for the other one.

The Scots did not let up in the second half, as Reiner assisted a Sarah BonDurant goal 12:09 into that stanza and Danielle Witchey later capped the scoring with her third goal of the fall.

Sunday’s five goals against Anderson all came in the second half. Brianna Lux started the offensive fireworks in the 49th minute of action, heading in a ball of a corner kick from Allison Hankus. Midway through the half, Kristin Gardner started a three-goal explosion over a 5:35 period. She was assisted by Reiner, while Emily Sterling and Amanda Coppes quickly followed with back-to-back unassisted scores to put the match away. Reiner finished a cross from McCarthy in the 78th minute.

Wooster will attempt to keep its winning streak alive at home on Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 10) against winless Muskingum College (0-3) at 5 p.m.
