The College of Wooster women’s soccer team scored a pair of dominating 3-0 victories against Ohio Athletic Conference foes Heidelberg College and Mt. Union College to win the Wooster Classic this weekend (Aug. 30-31).

The Scots combined to outshoot their opposition 90-2, including 77-0 against Heidelberg on Sunday, and sophomore goalie Becca Scina earned two shutouts in the first two starts of her career without even having to make a save.

Despite only scoring once in the first half on a Brianna Lux goal, assisted by Amanda Coppes, Sunday’s outcome was never in doubt, as the ball was on the ‘Berg’s side of the field nearly the entire 90 minutes. Sophomore Danielle Witchey found the back of the net twice in the second, once on a pass from classmate Emily Sterling and once right before the final horn to cap the scoring.

On Saturday, Wooster downed Mt. Union College in a much more competitive match. The Scots got on the board twice in the opening half with goals coming from Sterling and Allison Hankus, another member of the sophomore class, on a penalty kick. Bethany Reiner snuck one in during the 86th minute for the three-goal margin, while Coppes and Lux each recorded assists.

Next weekend (Sept. 6-7), Wooster will head to Indiana for games against Manchester College and Anderson College.
