Regionally-ranked opponents Carnegie Mellon University and The College of Wooster finished in a 1-1 deadlock Saturday afternoon (Sept. 11) during non-conference women’s soccer action at Wooster’s Carl Dale Memorial Field.

It was the schools’ second meeting, and last year they also ended up in a tie (0-0).

After a scoreless first half, Wooster got on the board 9:29 into the second, when Kerry Melenovsky volleyed in a cross from Sarah Schostarez. It marked the freshman’s first collegiate goal, while Schostarez took over the team lead in scoring with her seventh point.

The Scots’ lead didn’t last long, though, as the Tartans’ Ashley McMakin answered just 3:14 later on an unassisted goal.

It remained tied the rest of the way, with Wooster finishing with an 18-16 lead in the shot department.

Scot junior goalie Rebecca Scina, tested for the first time this season, tallied eight saves, including six in the first half alone. Her counterpart, Megan Monroe, made seven saves.

Wooster wraps up its current four-match homestand on Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 15) against Walsh University at 4 p.m.
