The College of Wooster women’s soccer team went 2-0 this past weekend against Cal-State Hayward University and the University of the South at Sewanee, Tennessee. With the wins, the Scots remain unbeaten with a record of 6-0-1.

On Saturday, Wooster battled Cal-State into overtime before coming out on top 2-1. After a scoreless first, the Scots netted the first goal of the game in the 57th minute as Sarah Schostarez found the back of the net for her third goal of the season. Cal-State answered thirteen minutes later as Ashley Shadd scored courtesy of a Whitney Buchanan assist. The score remained 1-1 for the remainder of regulation and four minutes into overtime until 94:07 as senior Bethany Reiner was awarded a penalty kick. Reiner shot the ball past Cal’s goalie to give Wooster the win. Junior goalkeeper Rebecca Scina made five saves, allowing one goal to record the victory.

On Sunday, the Scots were once again in action in Sewanee, this time facing the home team, the University of the South. The Tigers jumped on the board early, scoring the lone goal of the first half just nine minutes into the game and led by that margin going into the second period. The Scot offense came alive in the second half, attacking the goal for 10 shots. Senior Sarah BonDurant netted her first goal of the season at the 63:37 mark to tie the score at 1-1. At 79:42, Laura Ayer also tallied her first goal of the season via a corner kick by Danielle Witchey to put Wooster ahead by one. Witchey sealed the deal with a score of her own, her third on the season, when she booted in a corner from Schostarez. For Schostarez, the assist was her team-leading sixth of the season. Scina had a busy day, facing 17 shots and making nine saves to earn the win.

The Scots will be in action on Tuesday, Sept. 21, as Case Western Reserve comes to Carl Dale Memorial Field for a non-conference match up at 4:30 p.m.
