The College of Wooster women’s soccer team had their eight-game unbeaten streak snapped today at Carl Dale Memorial Field by Wittenberg University 1-0 in the opening game of the North Coast Athletic Conference season. The Scots drop to 7-1-1 overall and 0-1-0 in NCAC play, while Wittenberg remains unbeaten (6-0-3, 1-0-0).

The match was closely contested from start to finish. Neither side was able to take advantage of the few opportunities that arose, as Wittenberg managed just six shots at the goal while Wooster only got off nine. Through 75 minutes of action, the game was scoreless. The Tigers finally made a strike, at 75:44, when Phoebe Gaston kicked a long ball towards the goal that was mishandled by Scots’ goalie Rebecca Scina. Lisa Rusch put home the rebound to give Wittenberg the lead 1-0. That would be all the scoring the Tigers would need as Wooster’s last offensive push came up short.

Scian recorded two saves on the day while her counterpart, Meghan O’Rourke, made three against the Scot offense. It marks the first time Wooster has been shut out this fall.

The Scots will look to rebound when they travel to Mt. Union on Tuesday, Sept. 28, for a non-conference match up starting at 7:00 p.m.
