Kiley's Overtime Goal the Difference in 2-1 Victory at CMU
Kate Kiley scored a goal 3:55 into overtime Friday night, giving The College of Wooster a thrilling 2-1 win at Carnegie Mellon University in non-conference women’s soccer action. The two traditional regional powers were both in the “others receiving votes” category of this week’s NCAA Div. III Great Lakes coaches’ poll. Kiley’s decisive score came from long range, as she chipped it over the Carnegie Mellon ‘keeper from approximately 30 yards out on Wooster’s second shot attempt of the extra session. The Fighting Scots (6-1) had taken a 1-0 lead very early on when Angela Evans scored on a free kick during the fourth minute. It marked the second career goal for the senior defender. It looked like that might be the only score of the night, but the Tartans (2-3) got the equalizer, converting a free kick of their own with 11:28 remaining in regulation. Kiley’s game-winner was her second goal of the season. Abby Brown was the victorious goalie, although the Wooster freshman didn’t record a save. Only one of Carnegie Mellon’s eight shots was on goal. The Scots also were credited with eight shot attempts, with a pair of Tartan net-minders combining for three saves. Wooster will be right back in western Pennsylvania Sunday afternoon for a match-up with Washington & Jefferson College (1-3-1). |
