Clark's Overtime Game-Winner Pushes Scots' Record to 8-2
WOOSTER, Ohio – Letitia Clark scored 1:25 into overtime, lifting The College of Wooster past John Carroll University 1-0 during the northeast Ohio schools’ annual match-up in women’s soccer on Wednesday at the Fighting Scots’ Carl Dale Memorial Field. Just moments before Clark’s game-winner, it appeared that John Carroll (4-5) would emerge with the win. The Blue Streaks brought the ball into Wooster’s goal box in the 91st minute and had a couple of chances, with one shot being deflected by Scot ‘keeper Abby Brown and then some anxious moments went by before she was able to cover it up. Wooster (8-2) immediately transitioned the ball the length of the field. Kate Kiley eventually gained possession on the left side, passed it to the right upper corner of the goal box, where Clark slid it past the charging John Carroll goalie and into the lower left of the net. It marked Clark’s seventh career goal and Kiley’s first career assist. During regulation there were few scoring opportunities by either offense. The Scots’ Liz Mott had a pair of headers during the 41st and 67th minutes that nearly went in, but both were saved by Michelle Zrebiec. Zrebiec ended up with 10 saves, while Brown made four in posting her first shutout of the season. Wooster gets into North Coast Athletic Conference play next with Saturday’s trip to No. 9 ranked Wittenberg University (7-2) for a 5 p.m. kickoff. |
