Chantal Koechli scored her first goal of the season late in regulation, but The College of Wooster could not come up with the equalizer Wednesday afternoon, as Otterbein College walked away from Carl Dale Memorial Field with a 2-1 triumph in non-conference women’s soccer action.

Wooster (5-1) was attempting to get off to its first 6-0 start in program history, however, Otterbein (2-2-1) had other ideas, scoring just 90 seconds into the match and once more about 10 minutes later.

The Cardinals looked like they were going to make that 2-0 lead be the final score, but the Scots started getting a series of quality runs the final 20 minutes of the match. One of those resulted in Koechli’s goal, the second of the sophomore midfielder’s career. She was assisted by freshman Liz Mott.

Defensively for the game, Wooster used a pair of goalkeepers. In the first half, junior Staci Alario had five saves, while Abby Brown made four stops during the second, highlighted by one on a breakaway with about 30 seconds remaining. For Otterbein, Tara Carter tallied four saves.

The Scots will look to start a new winning streak Friday night when they’ll be in Pittsburgh to face Carnegie Mellon University (2-2) at 7:30 p.m.
