The College of Wooster women's soccer team put the pedal down Saturday in its opening game of the 2007 season on the offensive end and knocked off the Ursuline College Arrows, 3-0. The contest marked the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the pitch as the game was played at Hiram College.

Keeping the pressure on and intensity up throughout the first half, the Scots finally broke through the Ursuline defense with just over five minutes remaining in the opening stanza. Laura Ayer found the back of the net for Wooster netting her first goal of the season and third of her career. The match stayed close until Liz Mott put Wooster ahead 2-0 headed into the locker room on a nifty goal with an assist from Nora Simon as the Scots out shot the Arrows by a 12-1 count in the first half.

Trailing 2-0, Ursuline had no counter attack in them in the second half, as the Scots once again held a decisive advantage in the shot chart over the final period, 14-0. Ayer capped off the scoring with her second goal of the match with 17:53 remaining in the game.

The Scots used a pair of goalies as senior Kate Kiley got the starting nod and junior Staci Alario handled the second-half duties. Neither net minder recorded a save as the one Arrow shot failed to be on goal.

The victory improves Wooster to 6-2 in season-openers including the 2000 season.

Wooster has little time to celebrate, as it is right back in action Sunday traveling to Alliance and battle the Mt. Union College Purple Raiders at 3:00 p.m.
