For the second time in as many seasons, The College of Wooster battled North Coast Athletic Conference rival Wittenberg University to a tie in two overtimes Saturday afternoon. Saturday’s contest marked the North Coast Athletic Conference opener for both teams after last season’s 1-1 double overtime deadlock at Carl Dale Field.

The first period featured a battle of the defenses, with Wittenberg, ranked No. 9 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America national Division III poll, registering four shots and the Scots unable to produce a shot as neither team managed to find the back of the net.

In the second half, the Tigers (8-2-1, 0-0-1 NCAC) accumulated nine additional shots, but the Wooster defense anchored by goalkeeper Abby Brown was up for the challenge. She registered four saves and kept the scoreless game in tact.

Both overtimes were slugfests, with each team using resilient defenses to keep the ball from finding the back of the net, resulting in the stalemate.

Statistically, Wittenberg held a 17-1 shot advantage, as well as a 10-0 edge in corner kicks.

Defensively, Brown tallied a total of six saves in the shutout for the Scots, while Wittenberg's Meghan O'Rourke registered one save on the night.

The Scots (8-2-1, 0-0-1 NCAC) will return to action Wednesday, Oct. 3, when they travel to Hiram College for a 4:30 p.m. NCAC tilt.
