Shulman Named Scots Head Womens Tennis Coach
WOOSTER, Ohio Former North Coast Athletic Conference student-athlete Lori Shulman has been named head womens tennis coach at The College of Wooster, also a member of the NCAC, announced Keith D. Beckett, Ph.D., Woosters director of athletics, recreation, and physical education August 26. Shulman will also be an assistant on the Fighting Scots womens basketball staff. A 1999 graduate of Denison University, where she played basketball, softball, and tennis, Shulman was an assistant coach at Hamilton College in upstate New York the last two years. There, Shulman worked with the basketball, softball, tennis, and squash programs, and performed a variety of duties, including the evaluation of player performance, recruiting of prospective student-athletes, and scouting report preparation. "I am pleased to welcome Lori as a member of our coaching and physical education staff," commented Beckett. "Lori brings experience as player, coach, and instructor to the program. Her experience in those areas has been within the ranks of NCAA Division III, providing her the knowledge to balance the rigors necessary for success in both the classroom and athletic arena." Along with her coaching experience, Shulman has been a tennis instructor at top-tier summer camps, including the 4-Star at the University of Virginia and Denisons Nike Camp. Shulmans collegiate highlights with the Big Red include being the team captain and most improved player on the 1997-98 womens basketball squad, and the softball teams Most Valuable Player in 1997. After earning her bachelors degree in psychology from Denison, Shulman went on to Ohio University, where she completed work, towards a masters degree in coaching education, while working as a graduate assistant in the department of recreation and sports sciences. Shulman, a native of Moreland Hills, Ohio, graduated from The Hawken School in 1995. |
