The College of Wooster women’s tennis team has two good opportunities to end a four-match losing streak this week when it kicks off the North Coast Athletic Conference portion of its schedule. On Wednesday, April 4, the Scots, who went 1-6 in the league during the 2006 regular season, host Oberlin College (7-5, 1-1 NCAC) at 4:30 p.m. Last spring, the Oberlin-Wooster match was moved indoors and played to decision, with the Yeowomen triumphing 5-1. The Scots will remain at home for a match with Allegheny College (4-9, 0-2 NCAC) Saturday, April 11, starting at 11 a.m. Allegheny prevailed 7-2 in the teams’ regular season meeting last year and also met in the back draw of the NCAC Tournament, with the Gators again winning (5-0).
Last Week: Wooster dropped its only contest of the week to fall to 1-6 this spring.
On March 28, host and nearby Walsh University shutout the Scots 9-0 in North Canton, Ohio. Walsh swept through the doubles action, but not before Wooster’s No. 1 tandem of Joanna Tysko (Athens, Ohio / Athens) and Elissa Lauber (Dover, Ohio / Dover) as well as the No. 2 team of Brenna Hart (Avon Lake, Ohio / Avon Lake) and Kimee Rankin (Connellsville, Pa. / Connellsville) put up good fights, with both losing 8-6 decisions. The Cavaliers also won every singles match, however, the Scots’ No. 6 player, Sarah Suddendorf (Port Washington, Wis. / Port Washington), nearly prevented the sweep, taking her opponent to three sets (4-6, 6-2, 10-3). Also putting forth a good showing was Tysko at the top of the lineup (6-2, 6-4).
