Scot Women's Tennis Head Home With 1-4 Mark
The College of Wooster women's tennis team concluded its spring
break trip in Hilton Head, S.C., with a 7-2 loss to Calvin on March 20.
The Scots picked up victories at third singles and second doubles,
while the Knights swept the remaining matches in straight sets.
Wooster junior Sara Stonewater fell to 1-4 in her debut season at
number-one singles after a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Keit Disselkoen. At second
singles, Katie Zeilstra took the first set 6-2, but sophomore Kristin
Walley put up a tough fight in the second set before losing it 7-5.
Freshman Sara Olson improved to 3-2 in singles play with a 6-3, 6-2 win
over Calvin's Jessica Bosma in the third position.
Anne Koldenhaven easily topped senior Ryan Clark at fourth singles
6-2, 6-0, while Rachel Knoester downed freshman Neela Satynurthy by the
same score at number-six. Scot freshman Amanda Bain nearly pulled off an
upset in the fifth position, however, Sally Skodinski prevailed 7-5, 6-4.
Calvin's Disselkoen and Zeilstra teamed up together to defeat
Stonewater and Walley at first doubles 6-3, 6-1. Number-two doubles was
the most-competitive match of the afternoon, as Bain and Clark topped their
opponents 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. Rounding out the results, Olson and Satymurthy
dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision at third-doubles.
The Scots, who are 1-4 on the season, will now prepare for their
first home match, which will take place on Tuesday, March 28, at 3:30 p.m.,
against conference-opponent Ohio Wesleyan.
"Even with the two injuries that occurred last week, I think that
we had a good overall trip," said Wooster first-year head coach Lauren
Cline. "I still believe that we can be competitive in North Coast Athletic
Conference-play."
