Ladies Shutout Scots in Women's Tennis


In its final North Coast Athletic Conference regular-season match of the season, the College of Wooster was shutout 9-0 by national-power Kenyon in Gambier, Ohio, today (April 16).

Scot junior Sara Stonewater lost 6-0, 6-3 at number-one singles to Brooke Roeper, while the Ladies' Elly Sherman defeated junior Ashley Fisher 6-0, 6-2 at second singles. Freshman Sara Olson was blanked 6-0, 6-0 by Lisa Beauchamp at number-three.

Wooster sophomore Kristin Walley put up a good fight before falling 6-4, 6-4 to Katy Tucker in the fourth singles position. Freshman Amanda Bain lost her first conference match of the season at number-five singles, as she was shutout 6-0, 6-0 by Sara Sanders. Finally, the Scots were forced to default at number-six due to junior Linday Techel's knee injury.

Stonewater and Fisher teamed up at number-one doubles and lost to Tucker and Caryn Cuthbert by an 8-3 margin. At second doubles, Beauchamp and Roeper prevailed 8-2 against Techel and Walley, while Kenyon's Mary Schmidt and Sherman topped Olson and freshman Neela Satymurthy 8-2 at number-three.
