Scot Women's Tennis Falls to Malone 7-2

Two days after ending a four-match losing streak with a 7-2 win over Otterbein, The College of Wooster women's tennis team lost by the identical score to Malone at home on Wednesday (April 26).

The Scots, who fell to 4-12 on the season, had an opportunity to take a quick 3-0 lead after the doubles play, but instead trailed 2-1.

Wooster's No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams each extended their opponents to a tie-breaker, but each lost their match. Juniors Sara Stonewater and Ashley Fisher fell 7-5 in their tie-breaker, while junior Lindsey Techel and sophomore Kristin Walley lost 7-3 in their tie-breaker. The Scots did pick up a win at No. 3 doubles, as freshmen Sara Olson and Neela Satyamurthy were 8-5 winners.

In singles, Wooster's lone win came at No. 4, where Walley was an easy 6-3, 6-1 victor. Playing well in a losing effort was Satyamurthy, who won the first set 6-1 before dropping the last two sets 6-2, 6-2.

In other singles action, Stonewater lost 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1; Fisher fell 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2; Olson lost 7-6, 6-3 at No. 3, and Techel was a 6-4, 6-2 loser at No. 5.

Wooster wraps up its season this Friday and Saturday in Meadville, Pa., when it competes in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. The Scots, who boast a 2-6 conference record, enter the tournament as the No. 7 seed. They will face Denison, the No. 2 seed, in the first round.
