Scot Women's Tennis Shuts Down Transylvania 9-0
The College of Wooster women's tennis team evened its record to 1-1
on the season with a 9-0 rout of Transylvania in a match played at Hilton
Head, S.C., this morning.
Scot juniors Sara Stonewater and Ashley Fisher earned hard-fought
three-set victories at the first and second singles positions, while
Wooster swept through singles spots three through six with ease. Stonewater
defeated Tamuna Loladze 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 at number-one and Fisher prevailed
4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) over Susan Desensi in the most competitive match of the
day.
Junior Lindsay Techel improved to 2-0 on the year with a 6-2, 6-0
win over Transylvania's Davis Potter at number-three. Rounding out the
singles results were Scot freshman Sara Olson, who downed Vanna Soushavath
6-3, 6-1 in the fourth spot, sophomore Kristin Walley, who beat
Transylvania's Jackie Pinckney 6-2, 7-5 at number-five, and Wooster
freshman Amanda Bain, who swept Danielle Walls 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles action, Stonewater and Fisher held off a big challenge
from Loladze and Desensi to win 9-7 at number-one. Olson and Walley won
8-4 at second doubles against Potter and Soushavath, while Techel teamed up
with senior Ryan Clark at the third spot to defeat Walls and Poe 8-1.
"This was a good win for us," said Wooster's Lauren Cline, who
picked up her first career coaching victory. "We were very aggressive and
smart, which led to great play in all nine matches."
