The College of Wooster women's tennis team went on the road and split a pair of North Coast Athletic Conference matches this weekend (March 31 and April 1), moving its record to 2-7 overall and 1-3 in the league.

The Scots fell to Wittenberg 7-2 in Springfield, Ohio, on March 31, but rebounded to rout Earlham 9-0 in Richmond, Ind., the next morning.

Against the Tigers, freshmen Sara Olson and Amanda Bain were the lone individual winners for Wooster. Olson beat Sarah Bonan 6-3, 6-2 at number-three singles, while Bain posted a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Annie Nickerson at fifth singles.

"Sara and Amanda are played very well for us again," commented Scot head coach Lauren Cline. "There were several other matches that we had a chance to win, but we were unable to close them out."

Wooster swept the Quakers at every position. In fact, the Scots combined to give up just 26 games in the nine matches.

Junior Sara Stonewater recorded her second career win at number-one singles, downing Celia Shannon 6-3, 6-3. At the second and third singles' positions, sophomore Kristin Walley and Olson whipped their opponents 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1, respectively.

Rounding out the singles results, Wooster senior Ryan Clark defeated Abby Ge 6-1, 6-1 at number-four, Bain topped Tracy Jordan 6-4, 6-3 at the fifth spot, and freshman Neela Satymurthy beat Breanne Heath 6-0, 6-2 at number-six.

Doubles play saw Stonewater and Walley win 8-3 at number-one, Bain and Clark shutout their opponents 8-0 at number-two, and Olson and Satymurthy come away with an 8-4 victory at number-three.

"I expect this match to really help our confidence throughout the rest of the season," said Cline. "Everybody executed everything well."

The Scots will look for their second NCAC win when they host Hiram on Wednesday, April 5, at 3:30 p.m.
