Women's Netters Suffer Setback to Carthage
The College of Wooster women's tennis team opened its annual spring break trip to Hilton Head, S.C., against a well-seasoned opponent and Carthage College's experience came through in an 8-1 win on Monday afternoon (March 11).
Carthage (12-2), which plays the majority of its matches in the fall and has already played its conference championships for 2001-02, swept Wooster in the doubles. Sophomores Stacia Kock and Molly Medaris put up the biggest fight at No. 1 before falling 8-6.
The Scots' point came from sophomore Sarah Drewes at No. 3 singles, where she outlasted her opponent 7-5, 6-3. Other noteworthy performances came from Kock, who played her first career match at No. 1 (1-6, 3-6), and freshman Angie Beeler, who played well at the fourth spot before falling 4-6, 3-6.
Wooster (0-2) will try and get into the win column on Tuesday (March 12) against another challenging foe in William Smith College (10-2).
