Women's Tennis Picks Up First Win Over Maryville
The College of Wooster women's tennis team capped its spring break trip to Hilton Head, S.C., with a 7-2 victory over Maryville (Tenn.) College, which could help the young squad build momentum as it returns home and begins North Coast Athletic Conference play next week.
After having dropped its first four matches to strong non-league opponents, Wooster came out versus Maryville and won two of the three doubles matches. Sophomores Stacia Kock and Molly Medaris earned their first career victory at No. 1 doubles over their opponents (8-5), while sophomore Sarah Drewes and freshman Angie Beeler prevailed for the second consecutive match at the No.2 position (8-5).
Then, the Scots dominated singles play, cruising to straight-set wins in four matches and adding a three-set victory as well, while dropping just one match. Medaris and Beeler were the first ones off the court with convincing decisions at No. 2 (6-1, 6-0) and No. 4 (6-0, 6-0), respectively. Drewes and freshman Courtney Miller posted victories at No. 3 (6-4, 6-4) and No. 6 (6-2, 7-6), respectively, while Kock edged her opponent at the top of the lineup 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 for her first career win at No. 1.
The Scots (1-4) will be back in action on Tuesday, March 26, against Ohio Wesleyan University (3-0) at 3:30 p.m.
