The College of Wooster may have been a bit rusty when it took
on Michigan schools Hope College and Albion College at the Great
Lakes Colleges Association Womens Tennis Tournament this
weekend (April 2), as it was the first time the Scots have played
competitively since their spring break trip.
Wooster, which had a previous match postponed due to the weather,
slipped to .500 on the season (4-4) after losing to Hope 8-1 and
Albion 5-2 at the annual tourney, hosted by Denison University.
Against Hope, the Scots lone victor was junior Courtney
Miller, who dropped the first set 6-2 at sixth singles but
came back to win the last two 6-1 and 6-3.
Wooster, after having been swept in the doubles by Hope, got
off to a better start in its second match, as the No. 1 doubles
tandem of Joanna Tysko and Molly Medaris earned an
8-4 decision over Albions top team.
Tysko also prevailed at the top of the singles lineup, winning
two of the three tiebreakers against Karen Dumas 7-6, 6-7,
7-6 to improve to 5-3 on the season, while No. 4 and No. 5 singles
did not finish due to time constraints.
The Scots will return to their regular dual-match schedule
this week, starting on Tuesday (April 6) at home against Walsh
University (5-3) at 4 p.m. |
