The College of Wooster played matches against three of the best NCAA Div. III women’s teams this region has to offer this past weekend (April 1-2), falling to Denison University 9-0, Kalamazoo College 6-3, and Hope College 5-0 at the Great Lakes Colleges Association Championships, hosted by DePauw University.

First, on Friday morning, Wooster (4-5) was swept by Denison, the No. 8 ranked squad in all of Div. III. The Scots’ highlight of that match was No. 6 singles player Emily Alward splitting the first two sets 6-4 with her opponent before losing 12-10 in a super tiebreaker, which was used in place of the third set.

Wooster rebounded that afternoon, putting up a good fight against a 6-2 Kalamazoo team. The Scots earned points from singles wins by Angie Beeler and Allison DuPuis at No. 2 (6-4, 6-2) and No. 6 (0-6, 6-4, 12-10), respectively, as well as at third doubles, where Alward teamed with Alison Inderfurth for an 8-3 victory.

Saturday morning, Hope and Wooster went inside because of the weather and played their match to decision due to limited court time. The Flying Dutch prevailed in five, which included DuPuis losing a close three-setter at No. 6 (3-6, 6-1, 10-5).

The Scots will return to their regular dual-match schedule on Tuesday (April 5), when they travel to Walsh University for a 3:30 p.m. match.
