The College of Wooster entered singles play with a 2-1 lead, but couldn’t hang on Friday afternoon, as Baldwin-Wallace College won the top-four positions to edge the host Scots 5-4 during non-conference women’s tennis action.
The No. 1 and No. 3 doubles teams of Joanna Tysko/Angie Beeler and Alison Inderfurth/Emily Alward scored early points for the Scots via 8-4 and 8-2 decisions, respectively, however, the team was unable to earn a split in the singles matches and dropped to 4-8 on the season.
Alward was Wooster’s lone doublewinner, as she took sixth singles in straight-sets (6-2, 6-2), while teammate Courtney Miller prevailed one spot above her in the order, also in straight-sets (6-0, 6-4). Baldwin-Wallace (13-3) triumphed at Nos. 1-4, with the closest singles match being Ashley Sanders match-up with Inderfurth at No. 4 (6-4, 7-5).
The Scots will look to end their five-match skid on Tuesday afternoon, when they travel to fellow North Coast Athletic Conference member Ohio Wesleyan University (6-3, 3-1 NCAC). |
