Scots Drop Opener to Ashland 6-3
The College of Wooster tennis teams did well at the top of the lineup on Saturday at Allegheny College, but the host Gators prevailed 5-2 (men) and 7-2 (women) in North Coast Athletic Conference play. The Fighting Scot men (9-7, 3-2 NCAC) were swept in the doubles competition, but evened up the match 1-1 when No. 1 singles player Will Morrison was first off the court with a 6-1, 6-2 victory, which marked his seventh win in dual matches this season (7-8). Wooster has relied on its depth for many victories recently, however, Saturday was a different story with Allegheny rattling off the next four points to secure the decision. In women’s action, the Scots (2-14, 1-4 NCAC) scored one point in doubles action via an 8-4 triumph for Emily Alward and Alison Inderfurth at No. 2. Wooster. Just like in the men’s match, the Scots won at the top of the singles order, as Joanna Tysko earned her 10th victory of the 2006 campaign (10-6), prevailing in a tiebreaker (7-4) in the first set and then cruising in the second 6-2, but that would be their only other point. Next for both Wooster teams are home matches against Kenyon College early this week. The women are scheduled to play Monday at 4:30 and the men Tuesday at 4 p.m. |
