Fresh off its first victory of the season over Malone College (5-3), The College of Wooster women’s tennis team came up short in its bid to make it two consecutive wins, falling to Ohio Northern University 9-0 in non-conference action at the D.J. Hard Tennis Courts in Wooster, Ohio. The Fighting Scots dropped to 1-7 this season, while the Polar Bears notched win No. 12 (12-2). Ohio Northern swept the doubles matches, winning 8-2 at No. 2 and 8-0 at No. 3. Wooster sophomore Allison Dupuis and junior Joanna Tysko made a push at No. 1, but the Polar Bear duo of Bridget Larson and Kaitlyn Macdonald sent the pair packing with an 8-5 loss. Tysko and Dupuis also fell to their doubles opponents in singles play. The former fell to Macdonald 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, while the latter lost to Larson 6-3, 6-4. Senior Alison Inderfurth nearly pulled out a victory in the first set of her match with Ashley Jones at No. 4, dropping the tiebreaker 7-5. Jones, Ohio Northern’s all-time leader in singles victories, bounced back with a 6-2 victory in the second set to take the match. The Scots get the weekend off from play, but will return to action on Wednesday, April 5, as they host their first North Coast Athletic Conference match against Oberlin College at 4:30 p.m. |
