Allegheny Holds Off Wooster in Match Played to Decision
The College of Wooster women’s tennis team scored one point and may have picked up a couple of others, however, Saturday’s match versus North Coast Athletic Conference foe Allegheny College took place inside due to the weather, so it was played to decision and the Gators came away with a 5-1 win. Allegheny (5-9, 1-2 NCAC) took all three doubles matches, with the Scots’ Brenna Hart and Erin Bauer putting up the toughest fight at No. 2 (8-5). The Gators made it 4-0 before Kimee Rankin extended the match, prevailing in a third-set super tiebreaker 10-3 after splitting the first two sets 6-3 at No. 4 singles. Sixth singles was the next to finish, sealing the victory for Allegheny, while Wooster’s No. 1 player, Joanna Tysko, held a 6-2 lead on her opponent. The Scots (1-8, 0-2 NCAC) will look to right the ship on Tuesday when they travel to non-league opponent Ohio Northern University (16-4) for an afternoon match. |
