Wooster Falls Just Short in Two Regional Losses at Hilton Head, Goes 1-4 Overall
The College of Wooster women’s tennis team came within a few points here and there of a 3-2 trip to Hilton Head, S.C., but instead returned with a 1-4 mark after tough 5-4 losses to regional opponents Heidelberg College and Principia College. The Fighting Scots also defeated Shepherd University 8-1 and were shutout by Carleton College (9-0) and St. Lawrence University (9-0). Wooster (1-5) was led by No. 1 singles player Joanna Tysko, who posted straight-set victories over Heidelberg, Shepherd, and Principia, combining to give up just three games in those matches. She also pushed Carleton’s and St. Lawrence’s top players to three sets before suffering close setbacks. Exhibiting depth, the Scots’ No. 5 and No. 6 singles players combined for a 6-4 record, with three wins from Erin Bauer and three from Sarah Suddendorf, respectively. Also of note, Elissa Lauber added a tough victory over Shepherd at No. 2 (6-3, 7-6), as did Kimee Rankin at No. 4 (6-2, 6-2). Wooster’s doubles teams consisted of Tysko and Lauber at No. 1, Brenna Hart and Bauer at No. 2, and a couple of different combinations at No. 3. Tysko and Lauber were 2-3 in Hilton Head, while Bauer and Hart won once (1-4). The Scots return to their northern schedule on Wednesday (March 28) with a match at Walsh University (4-3). |
