The College of Wooster track & field teams continue their indoor season this week with a couple of meets. On Friday night, Feb. 9, the Fighting Scots’ regular squads will compete for individual titles at the non-scoring Oberlin Invitational. Action begins at 6 p.m., in Oberlin, Ohio. Then, on Saturday, Feb. 10, a group of seven Wooster student-athletes will participate at the All-Ohio Championships, hosted by Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio. Individuals have to qualify for the annual meet and representing the Scots will be Ali Drushal (Lakeville, Ohio / West Holmes) in the women’s pole vault, KateLynn Riley (Westlake, Ohio / Westlake) in the women’s 55 hurdles, Bryan Albani (Warren, Ohio / Howland) and Dierre Taylor (Akron, Ohio / Garfield) in the men’s 55 hurdles, Rick Drushal (Lakeville, Ohio / West Holmes) in the men’s shot put, and Eric Dyer (Lexington, Mass. / Lexington) and Tristan Jordan (Virginia Beach, Va. / Floyd E. Kellam) in the men’s triple jump.
Last Week: On Feb. 2, the Wooster track & field teams faced some tough competition while participating in just its third meet of the 2007 season, as the men placed ninth and the women 12th at the Case Invitational in Cleveland, Ohio.
Freshman Eric Dyer (Lexington, Mass. / Lexington) continued to be a bright spot for the Scots, as he was the lone individual to score in two events, placing fourth in the long jump (20 feet, 3.5 inches) as well as fifth in the triple jump (41 feet, 6 inches). Senior thrower Rick Drushal (Lakeville, Ohio / West Holmes) tallied Wooster’s highest finish of the evening, taking third in the shot put (46 feet, 2.5 inches), while fellow senior Tim Presto (Wadsworth, Ohio / Wadsworth) contributed a fifth-place performance in the 800 meters (2:03.06). Also coming in fifth in a distance event was freshman Terry Workman (Hillsboro, Ohio / Edward Lee McClain) in the 3000 meters (9:28.83).
Complementing Dyer in the triple jump was junior Tristan Jordan (Virginia Beach, Va. / Floyd E. Kellam), who scored via a sixth-place showing in that event, just one inch behind his teammate (41 feet, 5 inches). Additional sixth-place efforts came from freshmen Bryan Albani (Warren, Ohio / Howland) and John Officer (Hanover, N.H. / Hanover). Albani did so in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.20 following a mark of 8.08 in the prelims, while Officer’s 54.05 run in the 400 meters put him in that position.
In the women’s meet, senior Ashley Zervos (Wheeling, W. Va. / The Linsly School) accounted for the squad’s lone points, finishing fourth in the 3000 meters (11:21.71).
NCAC Athlete of the Week: For his efforts (see above), Wooster’s Rick Drushal (Lakeville, Ohio / West Holmes) was selected as the North Coast Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for men’s indoor track – field events.
