Representatives from The College of Wooster men’s and women’s track & field teams will be at two meets this weekend. Most of the squad is expected to compete on Friday, Feb. 15, at the Kenyon Invitational, which will be a nine-team scored meet, featuring Allegheny College, Capital University, Denison University, host Kenyon College, Ohio Wesleyan University, University of Ottawa, Otterbein College, University of Rio Grande, and Wooster. The field events begin at 5:30 p.m., while action on the track is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. A select group of Fighting Scots have qualified for the All-Ohio Championships – Bryan Albani (Warren, Ohio / Howland) and Dierre Taylor (Akron, Ohio / Garfield) in the 55-meter hurdles, Eric Dyer (Lexington, Mass. / Lexington) and Tristan Jordan (Virginia Beach, Va. / Floyd E. Kellam) in the triple jump, Jon Mathis (Tallmadge, Ohio / Tallmadge) in the high jump, Steve Zumbrun (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Central Catholic) in the shot put, Katie Dale (West Point, Ind. / McCutcheon) in the shot put, and Kayla Miller (Mercer, Pa. / Mercer Area) in both the high jump and the triple jump – which will take place Saturday, Feb. 16, at Otterbein, at 1 p.m.

Last Week: On Feb. 8, six members of the Wooster track & field team won events, or tied for first-place, and five of them were in the field, at the Oberlin Open in Oberlin, Ohio. It was a non-scored meet, consisting of individuals from five area schools competing for titles.

On the men’s side, the Scots were highlighted by the performances of Bryan Albani (Warren, Ohio / Howland), Tristan Jordan (Virginia Beach, Va. / Floyd E. Kellam), and Steve Zumbrun (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Central Catholic). Albani was the lone winner on the track for Wooster, as his 7.99 time in the 55-meter hurdles bested the field, followed by teammates Dierre Taylor (Akron, Ohio / Garfield) in second (8.12) and Matt Jensen (Concord, Ohio / Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) in third (8.28). Jordan also edged a fellow member of the Black and Old Gold in the triple jump, as his mark of 42 feet, 2.75 inches was just ahead of Eric Dyer’s (Lexington, Mass. / Lexington) 41 feet, 8.5 inches. Zumbrun led another 1-2 Scot finish in the shot put with his throw of 43 feet, 3.75 inches being slightly ahead of teammate Josh Kime (Bucyrus, Ohio / Bucyrus), who hit 42 feet, 4 inches.

Wooster’s other first-place finishers in the men’s competition were Averell Gatton (McLean, Va. / Langley) and Jon Mathis (Tallmadge, Ohio / Tallmadge), who matched each other in the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 10 inches, while also noteworthy, Jordan added a runner-up showing in the long jump (20 feet, 5.75 inches) and Terry Workman (Hillsboro, Ohio / Edward Lee McClain) placed third in the 3000 meters (9:14.21).

Katie Dale (West Point, Ind. / McCutcheon) led the Scot women, capturing the shot put title with a mark of 37 feet, 4 inches. Jumping standout Kayla Miller (Mercer, Pa. / Mercer Area) was runner-up in the triple jump (32 feet, 10.5 inches) and tied for third in the high jump (4 feet, 7.5 inches), while other third-place efforts came from KateLynn Riley (Westlake, Ohio / Westlake) in the 55-meter hurdles (9.81) and Elizabeth Wardrop (Rockford, Mich. / American School of The Hague) in the high jump (4 feet, 7.5 inches).

NCAC Athlete of the Week: For his efforts (see above), Wooster senior Tristan Jordan (Virginia Beach, Va. / Floyd E. Kellam) was the North Coast Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for men’s indoor track – field events.
