| The College of Wooster mens and women's track
and field teams battled brisk winds and stiff competition at the
Ohio State Relays this past weekend (April 3) in Columbus. The
meet was not scored, as student-athletes from about a dozen schools,
including Div. I powers Ohio State University, Purdue University,
and West Virginia University among others, battled for individual
honors.
For the Scots, one of the top performances came from Keith
Vance once again, as the senior took eighth-place in the
shot put (49 feet, five inches). Also in the throws, freshman Rick
Drushal finished 10th in the shot put (46 feet, eight inches)
and 14th in the discus (131 feet, four inches), while senior Marc
Bryson was ninth in the javelin (146 feet, four inches).
On the track, freshman Tim Presto produced Woosters
highest placement, coming in ninth in the 1500 meters (4:15.45).
Sophomore Mark Ballinger posted a pair of top-20 efforts,
earning 14th- and 20th-place in the 400 (53.41) and 200 meters
(23.90), respectively, while classmate Chris Taft was 13th
in the 800 meters (2:00.78).
In womens action, junior hurdler Heather Reed and
sophomore distance-specialist Kathy McCreary each recorded
two top-20 showings. Reed crossed the finish line eighth in the
400- (1:15.22) and 12th in the 100-meter hurdles (16.45). In addition,
junior Emily Moore came in 14th in the 800 meters (2:34.61).
The Scot track teams will be at Ohio Wesleyan University for
the Marv Frye Invitational next Friday (April 9), with action taking
place throughout the day. |
