Drushal a Double-Winner at Emory Invitational
Junior thrower Rick Drushal won the shot put and the discus to lead The College of Wooster’s results at Saturday’s Emory Invitational, which capped the track & field team’s week-long spring break training trip. A small group of Scots also competed at the Florida State Relays on March 23-24. Drushal threw the shot 46 feet, 10 inches, easily outdistancing his closest competition by 17.5 inches, while his mark in the discus of 148 feet, 10 inches was more than four feet ahead of the runner-up. He also competed in the discus in the Florida State meet, finishing runner-up (145 feet, 10 inches). Wooster performed well in the women’s throwing events at Emory, too, with freshman Katie Dale placing third in the shot put (35 feet, 10.75 inches) and sixth in the discus (109 feet, one inch). In other action out on the field, the Scots put a couple among the top-eight in the pole vault with senior Jill Berner tying for fourth (10 feet), followed closely by freshman teammate Ali Drushal in a tie for seventh-place (9 feet, 6.25 inches). Also, freshman Kayla Miller’s mark of 33 feet, 2.5 inches in the triple jump was good for seventh-place. On the track, Wooster was paced by senior Colin Tuner, who ran to a seventh-place showing in the 1500 meters (4:15.63), and Matt Jensen, who took eighth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.74). Additionally, senior Taylor Delhagen led a pack of Scot runners in the 5000 meters at the Florida State Relays with a time of 15:57.04. The Scots will host the annual Wooster Invitational on Saturday (April 1). |
