Five Scots Earn All-Conference Recognition at NCAC Indoor Championships

The College of Wooster track & field teams put forth a strong showing in several events during Friday and Saturday’s NCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships in Granville, Ohio, with five Fighting Scots earning all-conference laurels during the weekend.

The Scot men finished fifth in the field of ten teams with 43 points, behind champion Allegheny (159), Ohio Wesleyan (114), Wabash (100.50) and host Denison (75.50). Rounding out the sixth through ninth places were Kenyon (42), Wittenberg (39), Oberlin (31), Earlham (15) and Hiram (5).

The Wooster women ended the weekend seventh of nine teams, scoring 37 points. Ohio Wesleyan won the NCAC title with 183 points, followed by Allegheny (112), Oberlin (106), Denison (60), Wittenberg (58) and Earlham (49). Kenyon was eighth with 10 points, while Hiram was ninth with nine points.

On the men’s side, the Scots’ Tristan Jordan turned in the best performance of the weekend, finishing second in the triple jump with a jump of 44 feet, 4.5 inches to earn him all-conference accolades. In addition Jordan was seventh in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 1 inch.

Rick Drushal also earned spot on the all-conference team with his third-place showing in the shot put, recording a heave of 47 feet, 8.5 inches. Also in the men’s field events, Averell Gatton scored points for Wooster with his eighth place effort in the high jump (5 feet, 8 inches).

In the Scots’ all-around best event of the weekend, Bryan Albani crossed the line third in the 55 meter hurdles (8.07), earning him a spot on the all-NCAC team, while teammates Dierre Taylor (8.12) and Matt Jensen (8.20) finished fourth and eighth, respectively.

Headlining the performances by the Scot women was Ali Drushal who captured the pole vault championship with a jump of 10 feet, 8 inches, while Sarah Wiswell also turned in a top finish, placing third at an even 9 feet. Both efforts earned the duo all-conference recognition.

Kayla Miller scored in three field events for Wooster, just missing all-NCAC honors in the triple jump with a fourth-place finish (34 feet, 10.25 inches), and taking seventh in both the long jump (15 feet, 3.5 inches) and the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches). Also in the high jump, Natalee Nochee (4 feet, 8 inches) and Ashley Baker (4 feet, 8 inches) placed eighth and ninth, respectively.

Also scoring for the Scots was Ashley Zervos, who ran to a seventh-place showing in the 5000 meter run and Katie Dale, who finished eighth in the shot put (34 feet, 0.5 inches).
