Babcock residents must go through a formal application process. For students new to the College of Wooster, the selection and placement is done through an application process and/or Residenial Life and Housing. New participants to the program will be selected on the basis of their interests and qualifications. Students who have previously lived in the Program should complete the application for Former Residents. Selection will be made on the basis of the application submitted. All students who wish to reside in the international program next year must reapply. Applications from returning residents will be considered on the basis of quantitative and qualitative participation in programs.
The selection committee's composition changes from year to year, but is typically comprised of the administrative intern from the office of international student affairs, both co-chairs of the program, and two current residents of the international program. Current students select their own rooms through a randomly allotted preference system.
- The selection committee is made up of 11 members:
- Administrative Intern from the Office of International Student Affairs (ISA)
- Both co-chairs of the program
- 2 current residents
- The Selection Committee is anonymous, to prevent hard feelings among friends and bribery. Applications for the selection committee are due the ISA intern when indicated by the Residential Life and Housing Office. Applicants will be notified of their selection ASAP.
- The Selection Committee will attempt to build a diverse community from all class years. An outstanding goal of the selection committee is to maintain a balance of international and domestic residents. The Decisions of the committee will be final. A waiting list will be compiled by the Office of Residential Life & Housing of those students deemed qualified but who cannot be housed immediately because of space limitations. - Members of the selection committee will meet will meet as a group, outside to make selection decisions. Committee members should plan to spend an entire afternoon together. A final list of selected residents will be submitted to the Residential Life and Housing Office.
- After the committee has completed the selection of students, a room draw will be held according to class rank and priority number. All residents are encouraged to consider roommates of different cultural backgrounds.
- Students accepted to the program are expected to reside there for the entire year. If a student leaves the program to study off campus for a term, he/she must reapply before he/she returns to campus.
