Living Facilities

Babcock Hall, the home of the International Program, will be under restoration for the 2008-2009 school year. The renovation, with a budget of $2.7 million, will address the many age-related issues of this somewhat historic dorm. Many aspects of the dorm, including some described below, will change, but the unique traditional yet homey atmosphere of Babcock will be maintained.

Babcock Hall now houses up to 118 residents in a combination of single, double and triple rooms. Bathrooms on each wing and in the basement and first floor are community style with sectioned showers and tubs.

Facilities and Recreation

Babcock Hall has a coin-op laundry room, a formal lounge, several less formal lounges, a kitchen, a bike room and a multi-purpose room.

The informal lounge, kitchen, laundry room, and bike room are located in the basement. The basement lounge, often used as a recreational space, has a TV with a DVD player, sofas and chairs. The kitchen contains a refrigerator, stove, sink, microwave and cabinet space. Also, many common kitchen utensils are available for use by residents.

The first floor houses smaller wings of residential rooms in addition to the formal lounge and dining hall. The formal lounge, where the weekly International Program meetings are held, is a favorite room in Babcock, especially with its unique wood paneling and fireplace. The dining hall, now more of a multi-purpose room, seats about 70 people. Many large-group meetings are held there, such as SGA, as well as dance classes and the International Program semi-formal.

The second and third floors have informal lounge areas, which divide the long hallways into 'wings'. They are used to socialize and to study.
