Emergencies

Fire: Call the City Fire Department, 9-264-2222, and carefully report the fire. Then call Security, 2590 (Phone available in the department office) OR Dial 911 and tell the authorities you want to report a fire. Go to an alarm box (center hall of each floor). Pull the alarm to alert those in the building of a fire. Leave the building and go to the front lawn of Hygeia.

Spills: A spill cart is located on the second floor in the janitor's closet (Please read the handout "Safety in the Laboratory Courses" for appropriate cleaning materials). If the spill cannot be contained, call Security 2590 and the Department's Safety Officer.

Personal Injury: Go at once to the College Health center, call 2319, or Security 2590.

Emergency telephone numbers are posted on each floor and in each laboratory. Please become familiar with these numbers. Every laboratory room contains a "Chem Alert" sign explaining the NFPA hazard code and storage codes. There is also an eye wash station and first aid kit available in each laboratory.

A spill cart is located in Room 213A (the janitor's closet on second floor). You are required to be familiar with its contents, function, and purpose.

Do not use the elevator during a fire. Locate the nearest stairwell and determine the best route of escape in case of fire.
