Exercise 5

Exercise 5 Overview. Exercises 1-4 have led up to a collection of sequences you are interestd in studying and a table full of related sequences that might provide clues as to the function of teh PP2B family members in Paramecium. From this and the informational literacty skills Donna taught you, you shoudl be able to generate an hypothesis about that function(s) based upon what you have learned so far.

Your assignment is to provide a 2 page summary of what you have learned about the functions of the PP2B family in other species using standard information literacy techniques (library help session). Use these to construct a plausible hypothesis as to the role of the identified Paramecium PP2B genes. Your review should be 2-3 pages in length and must also contain a bibliography.

Completing the assignment.Ultimately I am looking for a nice short review of what is known about PP2B function in other species. Do other species have as many isoforrms? What functions have they been assigned to in other species? To answer these questions may require a detailed read of the abstract and only a quick skimming of the paper. Take notes about each paper and that way you can come back to it if you need more detailed information. Once you have a list of functions, look them over and see which functions are functiosn we can look at in Paramecium. These could be the basis for an hypothesis with a firm prediction.
